Michael Navarrete is currently occupying the 1st Ward Calumet City Alderman seat. Southland News Dispatch has obtained video which has sparked controversy over whether or not Navarette satisfies the residency requirement for the office. He has a mailing address in the ward. However, Navarrete seems to only park in the driveway when he has to go to city hall. The rest of the time, he is at a residence in Munster Indiana.

Navarrete’s voting address corresponds to an apartment in the 200 block of Pulaski right by the Calumet City hall. The unit appears unoccupied and mail is seen piling up. The video shows Navarrete pulling into the driveway where he parks his red SUV then walking to city hall. When the meeting ajourns, Navarrete hops into his car and leaves.

The video also shows Navarrete’s vehicle parked in a driveway of a single family home in the 8000 block of Monroe Ave in Munster Indiana. His vehicle is seen there repeatedly… weeknights, weekends, early mornings while his Pulaski Ave apartment sits empty.

Over and over the video shows Navarrete leaving the Munster address to park at the Pulaski apartment only to return to Munster when the city council meetings are over.

It is against the spirit of service for a politician to live in a place other than the ward they are supposed to represent. It is also dishonest and unfair to those people who are actual residents.
